A celebration of 50 years of Naked Lunch

Thursday, November 19, 2009, 7:30 - 10:30 PM
Mu-Meson Archives
Corner of Trafalgar St and Parramatta Rd, Annandale, Sydney, Australia

Jack Sargeant presents a talk on William S Burroughs’ work alongside a reading of extracts from Naked Lunch which celebrates its fiftieth year in 2009. Deemed unreadable, rude, crude and immoral by the self-satisfied moral tongue clickers, the book’s publishers fought censorship and celebrated the freedom of the word and liberation of the imagination. The book changed the nature of literature and launched WSB’s career.

Jack is author of numerous books including Naked Lens: Beat Cinema, now in its third edition via Soft Skull Books of New York, and wrote the introduction to William Burroughs’ Unforgettable Characters, published via Xochi of Brisbane.
